is a land of adventure, a vast forested territory rising from coastal
plains to mountains watershed from which great rivers begin their
long winding search for the sea. The exotic wildlife and diverse flora
and fauna is particularly interesting to any naturalist and botanist.
It provides an insight into one of the oldest tropical rainforests,
and thus some of the more interesting places to visit in this part
of the world.
Its unique topography includes frequent limestone outcrops, which
often rise above the surrounding forest in dramatic fashion. The
most striking is the Pinnacles of Gunung Mulu National Park in Sarawak.
The limestone is often riddled with caves, many of the most accessible
caves have, for centuries provided a source of wealth with their
edible birds’s nests, and have also been used as ancient burial
grounds.
